History

This institution belongs to the Society of Jesus in general and in particular to the Karnataka Jesuits. The Society of Jesus was founded in 1540 by St. Ignatius of Loyola, the Saint from the little village of Spain, after whom this institute is named “Loyola”. The Jesuits have been working among the people of Karnataka for over 100 years, mainly in the field of formal education through schools and colleges especially in the socioeconomic field. Since 1992, importance has been given to service to the poor and the marginalized youth: to protect them from exploitation and to raise their socio-economic status.

Loyola ITI is run by the Bangalore Jesuit Educational Society which is part of larger body called the Karnataka Jesuit Educational Society. This body manages a number of high schools, technical institutes and university colleges in Karnataka. The management takes keen interest in this Institute of rural youth in technical skills, while fostering their all-round development in a congenial atmosphere.

In the early stages we started some non-formal courses like Tailoring, Carpentry, Welding and Driving. As the years went by, after a thorough study of placements in local industry, we started some formal courses like Electronic Mechanic, Fitter Mechanic, Motor Mechanic Vehicle and recently we add diesel mechanic SCVT one year course. At the same time we closed down the earlier non-formal courses and started few new courses: Computer Applications, 1 year automobile two and four wheeler mechanism, Refrigeration and Air-conditioning.
