Fitter
Overview
A Fitter General sizes metal parts to close tolerances and fits and assembles them using hand tools for production or repairs of machines and metal products. Responsibilities include:
    - Studying drawings to understand specifications of parts and assemblies
 
    - Cutting and shaping metal parts using sawing, chipping, filing, grinding, drilling, and screw cutting
 
    - Assembling parts by riveting, screwing, and pinning to complete a unit
 
    - Dismantling and replacing worn-out or defective parts using hand tools
 
    - Testing completed articles to ensure correct performance
 
    - Performing simple turning, welding, brazing, annealing, hardening, and tempering operations
 
Metal Sizing & Assembly
Fitters accurately size metal to required dimensions for making specimens or finished components. Tasks include:
    - Measuring sample or studying drawings to record dimensions
 
    - Holding material in a vice and shaping it using hand tools
 
    - Checking dimensions using calipers, gauges, micrometers, and vernier height gauges
 
    - Marking object with face plates, scribers, or combination sets for precision work
 
    - Drilling holes, cutting threads, and assembling parts using screws, rivets, and pins
 
    - Ensuring dimensional accuracy using shadow graphs and slip gauges
